Although there are potentially hundreds of reasons why your home’s central air conditioner may not be working up to par, there are five that occur at a greater
frequency than all other contenders.
At Furnace Doctors, we’re skilled in all aspects central air conditioning system repairs, routine maintenance, and system installation. Plus, we offer regular and emergency repair service for most
makes and models. Just exactly what you need to help you cope with the often oppressive heat and humidity here in the Twin Cities area.
While we can’t tell you, of course, what’s wrong with your AC system until we thoroughly troubleshoot the problem, here are five distinct possibilities:
- Frozen inside coil
A frozen coil often indicates a problem with airflow, such as restrictions caused by dirty air filters or a blocked return air ductwork. Frozen indoor coils could also be caused by low refrigerant levels. Depending on the severity of the problem, a frozen coil may necessitate a replacement indoor air handler if not your entire system.
- Outside unit not functional
This typically indicates lack of power, contactor problems or even a faulty thermostat.
- Outside fan is not working
The outside fan is responsible for transferring the heat from your home to the outside air. Once that fan stops working, your outdoor compressor can overheat and trip the safety overload. Worse yet, it may cause internal damage to the compressor.
- Low refrigerant
Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air. Low refrigerant may indicate a leak or some other system problem. You can help prevent that (and most other system problems) by having your system regularly cleaned and inspected.
- Faulty wiring
Improper, haphazard, or uncertified A/C wiring is dangerous and a potential fire hazard. Faulty wiring often prevents the system from getting power, or can trip the circuit breaker. If your AC system is repairable, Furnace Doctors can repair it. But we can do something far more valuable for you: helping to keep your system in top working order with our annual cleaning and inspection service. Often times there are early warning signs that a problem is brewing and by responding then vs. after the problem already has occurred, we can spare you any needless system down time. So if it’s been a year or more since your last AC system inspection, we urge you to contact Furnace Doctors today for professional service and dependable results.
