Common AC Repair Problems
The following are among the most common AC repair symptoms:
Your AC System Isn’t Responding to Changes in the Thermostat.
The problem here could as benign as a broken thermostat or as dire as a frozen coil. We can’t tell what’s wrong until we troubleshoot the situation, but if your coil has frozen, your indoor air handler or your entire system may need to be replaced.
Loud, Persistent Noises.
If, after years of quiet operation, your AC system suddenly starts making popping, banging, and/or other weird and unpleasant noises, there’s a problem just waiting to be fixed. The popping, for example, could be coming from inside your under-sized air ducts. Banging noises usually indicate the indoor or outdoor fan is making contact with some other internal component, or that the fan belt has come loose.
Hot & Cold Spots in the Same Zone.
If your AC system was properly designed, sized, and installed, it should be providing uniform levels of cool air everywhere it’s designed to reach. When that’s no longer the case, you may have a crack or leak in your air ducts that’s causing rising temperatures in one part of your home. That, in turn, will cause your system to work overtime to compensate for the lack of cool air, and that means added wear and tear. Other causes of hot and cold spots include one or more faulty thermostats, blocked vents and registers, or an AC system that’s gradually wearing down.
Larger than Normal Electricity Bills.
If your electricity usage patterns are largely consistent but your bills tend to skyrocket during the cooling months, you already know the likely culprit is your AC system. Maybe all it needs is a thorough cleaning, inspection, and replacement filter. No matter what the cause, we’re here to accurately diagnose it and, with your approval, make the needed adjustments.
Our advice? Simply this: if you’re noticing anything out of the ordinary with your central AC system, contact Furnace Doctors right away. Because restoring lost indoor comfort is precisely why we’re here.
